Today has been a horribly wet day in Nakano, Tokyo. It’s been raining non-stop since 2am this morning apart from the occasional dry spell, but they’ve only lasted for 20 mins max. Since I’m still jet lagged and I took a nap yesterday afternoon, I was up at 3am this morning. I wasn’t able to go back to sleep so I went for a run at 3.30am. I’ve never been up at that time to go running but it was refreshing and rather peaceful.
Due to the rain, our original plan of meeting up with Ana at Harajuku never materialized so after having breakfast some much needed studying was done.
The rain died down in time for lunch so we headed to Nakano Broadway, the main shopping street, for some cheap soba noodles (390yen).
Recently, there have been a lot of processions going on through the streets of Nakano and today there was a large one going through the shopping mall. There were two groups carrying shrines on their shoulders; a men’s group leading at the front, followed by the women’s group behind. We had no idea what was going one but it seems that the Japanese women next to us had no idea either…
Nakano Broadway has so many shops and we spent most of the afternoon here just walking around and taking pictures. We also stocked up on some provisions for breakfast tomorrow. In the basement supermarket they even have a Waitrose section!
Since we got back all I’ve done is a bit of studying. They say a typhoon is approaching and it will still be raining quite heavily tomorrow so we’re probably not going to get up to much – maybe some more studying!
