Blue Lagoon in Furano, Hokkaido – Day 354

Well, technically it’s called Blue Pond (Aoiike) but I think Blue Lagoon is a prettier name.

This pond really is a beautiful blue due to the natural minerals dissolved in the water. It is located just outside of Shirogane onsen in Furano, over an hours drive away from Sapporo.

I saw this pond as part of a bus tour that I joined on my second full day in Hokkaido. The first part of the tour stopped off at this pond and somewhere else in the area, before heading to Tomita Farm (my next blog post).

Apparently, this has only become a tourist attraction in the last few years, and there really isn’t anything else to see apart from the pond. It takes you about 10 minutes to walk round so I don’t think it is coming all the way out here just to see it. But I had fun taking lots of photos!

Some other river next to the pond - not as nice...

Earlier in the morning, we stopped somewhere before reaching the pond. I have no idea where we were, but there was a nice viewing area at the top of this pyramid structure!

I will be doing my blog post on Tomita Farm, Furano, very soon! Expect lots of photos of flowers and of Lavender ( + Melon!) flavour ice-cream!
